Adan Mendoza, the sheriff for Santa Fe County, confirmed the sad news but did not say what killed the couple or how long they had been missing before being discovered. Alongside them, their cherished dog was also discovered dead.
Arakawa and Hackman, who celebrated his 95th birthday in January, were wed in 1991 and had been together for more than 30 years. Considered by many to be among the best actors of his generation, the actor had recently distanced himself from the spotlight. Some fans were worried about his deteriorating health after his last known public appearance.
Over the course of a 40-year career, Hackman established a strong reputation in Hollywood. He has more than 70 films in his discography, and he has won numerous awards for some of his most well-regarded roles. He won two Academy Awards: one for Best Supporting Actor in Clint Eastwood’s acclaimed Western Unforgiven, and another for Best Actor in The French Connection.
In order to focus on a more subdued life, the seasoned actor said goodbye to Hollywood in the middle of the 2000s. In an interview with Larry King in 2004, he alluded to his impending retirement by stating that he had no projects planned. He explained his choice in 2009, saying that a health scare made him reevaluate his career.
“The pivotal moment was a stress test in New York,” Hackman told Empire Magazine. “I was told by doctors that my heart wasn’t in the right state to handle the demands of acting.”
Following his departure from the film industry, Hackman focused on writing, painting, and fishing. His passion became writing in particular.
At one point, he remarked, “I find it really relaxing.” “Although I wouldn’t consider myself a great writer, I really love the writing process. You are not under any pressure to perform in front of a cast and crew, unlike acting, which is a solitary activity.
Hackman is survived by his three children, whom he shared with his late first wife, Faye Maltese: Christopher, Elizabeth Jean, and Leslie Anne.
